Scarlett O'Hara's Drapery

       Gown

Green Velvet Drapery Dress

This 2 piece dress with cape draped sleeve, as well as the hat and purse are constructed of 2 shades of velveteen with approximately 20 yards of deep green and 15 yards of light green fabric.

The Hat is built on a hand made buckram and wire frame and decorated with  cocque sweeps and real chicken feet that have been petrified and gilded with gold paint. It is edged in gold bouillon fringe. Matching  petal purse with corded piping trim completes the ensemble. The patterns for both hat and purse are exclusives to Gwtw4ever.

Bodice is flat lined, boned and lined and closes with 16  hooks in a concealed placket with another 8 used to fasten it to shirt. Skirt is mounted on wide grosgrain waistband. Dress is accented with heavy gold and green cord around left arm at junction of sleeve cape and for belt that ends in massive gold tassels trimmed in green.

This is an especially heavy gown due to the double velveteen skirts. The original film gown is reported to have weighed 35 pounds. Miss Leigh weighed only 103.

The gown requires a bustle pad as well as a heavy duty 8 wire hoop slip with approximate circumference of 175". Please visit our underpinnings page for examples of these.
